This conversion set is meant to be combined with the Special Hobby 1/48 scale X-15A-2 kit to convert the X-15A-2 (the second X-15 built) to the configuration of the aircraft with the interim XLR-11 engines. The resin parts include the long pitot tube for the nose, a replacement canopy (the clear sheet is to be cut to provide the windows), tail section parts to convert the 'stretched' A-2 version back to the original configuration. The resin parts are finely cast with some flash but no visible air holes. The XLR-11 nozzles are particularly delicate and nicely molded. Use care when removing them from their pour plugs. The instruction sheet details which Special Hobby steps to follow and where to make the modifications to convert the model. Both text and graphical steps are included, along with two four-view painting and decaling guides for the rollout and first powered flight markings. Markings are provided for both the first and second aircraft that flew with the interim engines. A short program history of the vehicle completes the instruction sheet.
